Matt stars as a high school basketball coach in this indie flick, Winning Favor, about high school basketball teams from Orange City, Iowa which won the state's   boys high school basketball championship in 2005. In the News 4 Sioux City website, Matt  states , "I looked at it and its really a lot of great things in it, and I said ok I'd love to get behind this. A chance to play a new and different role, I'd been playing this one character Jack Devereaux [sic] on Days of Our Lives for the better part of 20 years, and one thing he has never been is a coach."

Matthew,  along with Nick G. Miller, David Michael Ross, and others are writing and producing a new horror movie, which should be in production by now. According to Nick and Matt's interviews in the current Scars Magazine, the movie is a psycho-thriller, which Nick says is" The Big Chill meets The Twighlight Zone meets Nightmare on Elm Street." The story revolves around college students who engage in a prank which results in a murder -- or does it -- the killer is not revealed; the story then jumps fifteen years to the present when the college gang reunites, and like all classic horror flicks terror ensues. Matt discusses the psychological factor behind reunions, "...people come back together and there's so much expectation: What am I like? What is he like? What is she like?"
